  • Roots in Harmony offers singers the opportunity to explore and celebrate the richness of Black musical traditions while growing as musicians and building meaningful connections with others. We believe great music is strengthened by a strong sense of community.

  • We explore music from across from African diaspora, from gospel and spirituals to contemporary choral works, folk traditions, and other music shaped by Black cultures and experiences.

  • A typical rehearsal begins with vocal and body‐based warm‐ups designed to prepare singers for healthy, expressive singing. From there, we explore repertoire, build ensemble skills, and work together to bring the music to life.

  • No. While some singers have previous choir experience or read music, neither is required. Singers should be able to match pitch, learn music independently between rehearsals, and come prepared to participate. Sheet music, learning tracks, sectionals, and rehearsal support are provided to help members succeed.

  • Yes. New singers join through an audition process held before the start of each season. Auditions help us get to know your voice, musical background, and placement within the ensemble.

  • Yes. Membership fees help support rehearsal space, music purchases, accompanists, guest artists, performance expenses, insurance, administrative costs, and other choir operations. Fee information is shared before the start of each season. Financial assistance may be available for singers experiencing financial barriers.

  • Rehearsals take place weekly on Wednesday evenings from 6:30‐8:30 PM. Rehearsal location and other important details are shared with registered singers prior to the start of each season.
