MEMBER GUIDELINES

These guidelines support how we work together in Roots in Harmony. They help us maintain a respectful, consistent, and collaborative rehearsal space.

By participating in the choir, members agree to support its mission and engage thoughtfully in rehearsals, performances, and ensemble activities.

  • Members are expected to:
        •    attend rehearsals regularly and arrive on time
        •    participate in performances and additional rehearsals when scheduled
        •    communicate when they are unable to attend

If a significant number of rehearsals are missed, participation in performances may be reviewed at the discretion of the Artistic Director.

We understand that schedules vary. Consistent communication is valued.

  • Roots in Harmony is a shared artistic space. Members are expected to engage with:
        •    respect for others in the ensemble
        •    openness to learning and collaboration
        •    care in how we communicate and work together.

  • Rehearsals are focused working sessions.

    To support collective learning:
        •    conversations are kept for breaks
        •    musical questions may be directed to the Artistic Director during rehearsal
        •    other questions or concerns should be shared outside of rehearsal time when possible

Learning materials (such as recordings or practice tracks) may be provided. Members are expected to engage with these between rehearsals to support group learning.

Movement or staging may be included in performances. Members are expected to participate to the best of their ability, with accommodations made where needed.

  • Music and performance materials are provided for member use during the season.

    Members agree to:
        •    take care of all sheet music and binders
        •    use pencil only for markings (no ink or highlighter)
        •    return all materials at the end of the season or when requested
        •    replace lost materials where applicable

Music provided is either owned by Roots in Harmony or used under agreement and must be treated with care.
